When we first set out to create our debut homeware collection using Fabreco, our innovative material made from textile waste, we knew we needed support to bring our vision to life. Crowdfunding not only provided the financial backing we needed but also gave us the opportunity to refine our processes, improve our packaging, and elevate our product in ways we hadn’t anticipated.
Sustainable Packaging With a Purpose
One of the biggest learning curves was figuring out how to package our items properly while staying true to our sustainability values. We wanted our packaging to be as thoughtful as the products themselves, ensuring minimal waste and maximum reusability.
-
Reusable boxes – Our sturdy, high-quality boxes are designed to be repurposed, whether for storage or creative upcycling.
-
Plantable filler – Instead of using traditional packaging filler, we opted for an innovative solution: biodegradable, plantable filler that grows into wildflowers when planted.
-
Postcards with a story – Each order includes a postcard made from denim waste, an innovative material called Papertex, created by our partners at FibreLab. It’s another way we integrate circular design into every aspect of our business.
Finessing Our Manufacturing Process
Crowdfunding also allowed us to invest in the tools and systems needed to make our production process more efficient and sustainable.
-
Custom tooling – With the funds raised, we developed specialised moulds that help us create Fabreco pieces with minimal waste.
-
Efficient production line – Instead of making each item individually from start to finish, we refined our workflow into stages, significantly reducing production time and improving consistency.
-
Iterative improvements – Through trial and error, we discovered better ways to make certain elements of our products. These small refinements added up, ensuring our final designs were the best they could be.
Elevating the Product: The Story Behind Each Piece
With every Fabreco item we make, we want to celebrate its uniqueness and the story behind it. Crowdfunding helped us introduce an extra special detail: batch and series numbers printed on the underside of each item. This means every piece is part of a limited edition, giving customers something truly one-of-a-kind. It’s a small touch that connects people to the craftsmanship behind their purchase.
Looking Ahead
Crowdfunding our first homeware collection was more than just a financial boost—it was a launchpad for refining our approach, strengthening our values, and growing our small business. It allowed us to take the time to perfect our designs, learn from the process, and create a product that not only looks beautiful but also tells a story of sustainability and innovation.
We’re so grateful to everyone who supported us, and we can’t wait to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with Fabreco. This is just the beginning!
